Doing the Laundry - 19C Europe

Gustave Caillebotte (French painter, 1848–1894), Laundry Drying, Petit Gennevilliers 1892

When I was a child, Monday was laundry day. Today we just toss soiled linens into the washer, no matter the hour or day of the week. But when I drive through the nearby Amish countryside, where electric appliances are not allowed, I realize that laundry has been drying on the lines & blowing in the winds for centuries, even when snow covers the ground.
