Edouard chose to paint, but his favorite subject was painting artists at work in vaulting sculpture studio.  His career was cut short, when one of the horses attached to his carriage bolted, throwing Dantan to his death; before he Reached the age of 50.

Edelfelt illustrated Runeberg's epic poem The Tales of Ensign Stål. He Studied art in Antwerp (1873-1874), Paris (1874-1878), & amp; St. Petersburg (1881-1882).
